Tim Harlick
Governance Professional & Policy Nerd
Hi, I'm Tim.
I work in university governance, which is just a fancy way of saying I help large institutions make informed decisions. My focus is ensuring that rules remain clear and when they're sometimes not, I provide a sound interpretation. I enjoy helping people participate in a way they find enriching while upholding their fiduciary duties. Some may find it boring, but I find the monochromatic world of governance to be full of colour every day.
My career has been a bit of a cross-Canada tour. I started out in board and policy governance back home in Newfoundland, spent five years streamlining policy governance in Calgary, and now I'm based here in Toronto deep in the seas of university governance once again.
I built this website as a digital sandbox. The projects you see in the navigation bar, like the Elections Project or the Board Workplan, are tools I developed because I wanted to make my own work life a little more efficient (and maybe a little more interesting).
Offline Life
I moved to Toronto in 2021 with my family. We love exploring the city, often by car. I find long drives surprisingly therapeutic for clearing my head.
Recently, I’ve become a hockey dad. I started going for my son, but I have to admit I’m starting to enjoy the rink just as much as he does.
Creative & Geeky
I am a massive movie geek and I still make time for video games when I can. I don't read much (I read enough bylaws at work), but I consume stories in every other format.
On the creative side, I write parody music. I’ve recently started using AI tools to actually produce the songs I write, which has been a fun way to finally hear the ideas in my head come to life.
Thanks for stopping by. If you're here for work, check out the projects above. If you're here for the parody songs... you might have to ask me in person.
